Upon the Roof of the Wythe Hotel
The United States has seen its fair share of changes regarding states switching their stances on gay marriage these past few weeks. Today, there are around 30+ states that allow gay marriage, and more are soon to follow. Now gays are looking to get married, and with their options open, it comes down to places that are special and unique. In New York, there is one such place that is sure to fill those requirements.
Upon the Roof of the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, lies a pop up chapel that pays tribute to the LGBT community and all those who live in New York. More specifically, Andrew Tarlow, one of the hotel owners, created the chapel to pay respect for all those LGBT members who he knew and worked along side for many years. His business partner Peter Lawrence, helped contract another good friend of his named Tom Fruin, an artist who is widely known for his stain glass artistic style. More specifically, Fruin uses used items to create the iconic stain glass signature style, and created one in particular titled “Maxikiosko”, which looked like a giant house. This was the piece used for the Wythe Hotel.
The hotel began scheduling bookings in June, and promoted it for that month. The Maxikiosko is on display for tourists and hotel stayers alike to take pictures and view this magnificent piece of work. The Pop Up Wedding Chapel was only used in June, but may return now that many states are moving to legalize gay marriage.
